Peace Plantation Animal Sanctuary
Providing lifelong sanctuary and adoption services to homeless animals
Lifelong Sanctuary ![]() Peace Plantation provides lifelong sanctuary to homeless animals primarily cats and kittens a few resident dogs, and a number of farm animals. Peace Plantation's available sanctuary space for cats/kittens consists of 14 rooms (colonies) that, when combined, total more than 6,300 square feet of floor and shelf space. The majority of these colonies offer access to a full acre of outdoor, fenced-in grassy yards. The humane holding capacity or the maximum number of cats that can be cared for in these colonies is 429. Each of the cats/kittens who fill these available spaces receives compassionate care from Peace Plantation's dedicated staff members, including an on-site veterinarian, certified veterinarian technicians, adoption personnel, and animal care attendants. Peace Plantation's comprehensive adoption program is the result of over 50 years of experience working with cats/kittens and the adopting public. The primary goal is to place these deserving animals in loving homes with compassionate individuals and families who are willing to make lifelong commitments to them by accepting them as members of their family. Quality adoptions are paramount over the quantity of placements in a given period. Animal Rescue Services A significant portion of Peace Plantation's cat/kitten population is rescued by the sanctuarys animal rescue services staff. Cats and kittens are rescued from both urban and rural settings and transported to Peace Plantation where their health needs are immediately met. After attending to their medical needs, cats and kittens are slowly introduced to the sanctuary environment before making them available for adoption. Mandatory Spay/Neuter Since its creation in 1950, Peace Plantation has never engaged in the euthanasia of healthy animals as a means of population control. Alternatively, Peace Plantation endorses spaying and neutering as part of the humane education solution to ending our nations epidemic overpopulation of companion animals. As a testament to this solution, Peace Plantation adheres to a mandatory spay/neuter-before-adoption policy, including early-age spay/neuter. PPAS offers reduced cost in-house spay/neuter procedures.
