Working in conjunction with our affiliate organization, the Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC), the NHES Education Department offers free educational tours of the adoption facility to schools, churches, clubs, libraries and other venues serving children. The BAAC is located in Charles Town, WV--please click here for directions.
How far in advance should I make a request? We encourage BAAC Tour requests to be made at least two weeks in advance. How long is the tour and what does it include? Tours average 45-60 minutes and include a walk through the dog kennel, cattery room, and veterinary room. Tours usually commence with a visit from one our friendly BAAC dogs and may occasionally include a live educational puppetry show. What education topics are covered during the tour? Education topics include basic animal needs and care, proper pet handling and approach, kindness and responsibility, and animal-related careers. Accommodations can be made to cover other areas of interest, and to help with goals such as scouts working towards their pet badge. What age-level does BAAC offer educational tours for? BAAC educational tours are best suited for children entering 3rd grade and older; however, tours are available for PreK - 2nd grades. What size audience can the tour accommodate? Due to space and animal welfare considerations, we request tours to be no larger than 30 total children and accompanying adults.
