HUMANE HEROES took kindness and caring to the next level. These campers spent two weeks learning about the many types of animals in the world and how we as people share it with them. With an emphasis on introducing animal welfare considerations and related careers, campers participated in a variety of games and drama, as well as BAAC cat and dog interaction to learn how they can help animals in the real world! Guest speakers and animal friends from a variety of backgrounds participated.

This campers gets to know an adoptable BAAC kitty while having some laser light fun. Campers create personalized adoption description cards for over a dozen BAAC adoptable felines.

A tour of the BAAC allows campers an opportunity to see canines in their kennel environment; later campers socialize with BAAC dogs in the adoption room. Campers create fleece-fringed pillows to go home in BAAC canine adoption packets and give the dogs some comfort their first night in a new home.

Marc Anthony is searching, searching, searching...either for a kiss or... ...FOOD! This campers gets in a quiet moment during a busy day with the alpacas.

Campers work as teams to illustrate scenes from their self-created comic book adventure featuring a farm animal rescue! NHES works to promote humane-minded thinking toward all living creatures. No different than many comic adventures, this camp's story is fun (even a little outrageous) and ends on a good note. Campers meet Stumpy, a box turtle who survived the loss of one foot, and now serves as a wildlife ambassador to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center of Va. Jimmy, a fire-accelerant search dog, demonstrates her skills by searching out the camper with a drop of gasoline on her shoe!

Campers search for clues in the grooming room as part of a BAAC facility-wide scavenger-hunt for recyclable and reusable materials. Materials were later used to create educational art pieces about wildlife! This jaguar is comprised of a plastic spoon, cardboard tooth-paste box and t.p. roll, scrap fleece, and a styrofoam

Congratulations to our campers for a fun week of humane learning! We encourage you to always bring a sense of caring and responsibility for animals wherever you may go in life!
