BAAC is named in honor of Mrs. Anna C. Briggs and her deceased husband, Mr. James P. Briggs, who, like Mrs. Briggs continues to do, dedicated his life to improving the plight of homeless animals in our Nation. As such, BAAC is the incarnation of
Mr. and Mrs. Briggs’ inherent kindness to animals whereby each animal is viewed as having intrinsic value in and of himself and deserves to be treated accordingly.
In October 2000, the BAAC’s first phase of construction, including facilities to primarily care for dogs, was completed; and we immediately welcomed the first wave of 27 homeless dogs into our care. Following this first phase, we were able to expand our staff and thereby increase our humane holding capacity to a rotating daily average of 65 dogs.
By January of 2006, we brought Mr. and Mrs. Briggs’ full vision for BAAC to fruition by completing the second phase of BAAC construction, which includes a cattery with a humane holding capacity for 100 cats and kittens and additional kennel space consisting of real-life rooms for some of our older dogs.
