The Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC)

    Charles Town, West Virginia

The BAAC is named in honor of Mrs. Anna C. Briggs and her deceased husband, Mr. James P. Briggs who, like Mrs. Briggs continues to do, dedicated his life to improving the plight of homeless animals in our Nation. As such, the BAAC is the incarnation of Mr. and Mrs. Briggs inherent kindness to animals whereby each animal is viewed as having intrinsic value in and of itself and deserves to be treated accordingly.

In October 2000, the BAAC’s first phase of construction, including facilities to primarily care for dogs was completed, and we immediately welcomed the first wave of 27 homeless dogs into our care. Following this first phase, we were able to expand our staff and thereby increase our humane holding capacity to a rotating daily average of 65 dogs.

By January of 2006, we brought Mr. and Mrs. Briggs full vision for the BAAC to fruition by completing the second phase of BAAC construction, which includes a Cattery with a humane holding capacity for 100 cats and kittens and additional kennel space consisting of real-life rooms for some of our older dogs.
