    Comprehensive Adoption Program

     

    The BAAC primarily serves the homeless cat and dog population through its Comprehensive Dog and Cat Adoption Program, which consists of seven essential components:

     

    • Dog and Cat Intake via Rescue or Surrender
    • Ongoing Veterinary Care
    • Monthly Bathing & Grooming
    • Socialization & Initial Obedience Training
    • Mandatory Adoption Counseling/Education
    • Delivery of dogs to their new homes
    • Follow-up Interviews with Adopters

    Standard Veterinary Care

     

    Prior to adoption, each dog and cat receives veterinary care specific to their species.  Dog care includes, but is not limited to:

     

    • Spay/Neuter, including Early-Age Spay/Neuter of puppies
    • Dental Cleaning
    • Rabies Vaccination
    • DHLPP Vaccination
    • Bordetella Vaccination
    • Heartworm Test
    • Heartworm Preventative
    • Fecal Check
    • Deworming (two treatment minimum)

    Overview of Adoption Guidelines/Requirements

     

    Adoption requirements include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Applicants must be 20 years of age or older to adopt a dog or cat 
    • All members of an Applicants household must meet with the dog or cat they wish to adopt before placement in the home
    • All cats and dogs owned by an Applicant must be spayed/neutered.
    • Applicants must bring the dogs they currently own to the BAAC to meet with the dog(s) that they are interest in adopting.
    • Applicants with children under 6 years of age must complete a minimum of three visits with the dog or cat that they would like to adopt.
    • There is a mandatory 24-hour waiting period for all adoptions after an Applicants entire household has met the dog or cat they wish to adopt.
    • Puppies (under 6 months) cannot be adopted into household where the puppy will be left alone for more than four consecutive hours at anytime.
    • All dogs are delivered to their new home by an Adoption Counselor.
    • Follow-up contacts are made after every adoption to address any problems.
    • If, for any reason, an Adopter can no longer keep the dog or cat they have adopted, they must inform the BAAC and make arrangements to return the dog or cat.
