June '08 Ohio Prosecutor To Help Animals and People

    Paws Up!

To Ohio Prosecuting Attorney Robin Piper for creating a new crime unit to address domestic violence cases involving people and animals.

As described on Attorney Piper’s website, the Butler County Domestic Crime Unit “will involve a focus on prosecutions pertaining to felony domestic violence cases and a focus on cases involving animal cruelty and/or abuse. There are threads of commonality in abuse cases that involve people and companion animals.”  The attorney noted in local newsprint, the Middletown Journal, that despite a stronger focus on family and animal crimes, domestic violence cases in Butler County have not significantly dropped.

NHES applauds Prosecuting Attorney Robin Piper, and the new crime unit leader, Assistant Attorney Lance Salyers for their dedication to seek justice for human and animal victims!

Ohio citizens can also help strengthen protections for victims of domestic violence and animal cruelty.  Please write your state representative in support of pending bill, H.B. 418, which seeks to strengthen the state’s current domestic violence and animal cruelty law.

For more information on H.B. 418 and to write state legislators, please visit http://www.legislature.state.oh.us
