    Mayor Promotes Humane Fest

    Paws Up!

To District of Columbia Mayor Fenty for endorsing the upcoming D.C. VegFest!

The September 12, 2009 D.C. VegFest, hosted by Compassion Over Killing and the Vegetarian Society of D.C., seeks to promote the human health, animal welfare, and environmental benefits of adopting a vegetarian/vegan diet.

In anticipation of this important event, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty issued an official greeting to the festival, stating it “give[s] our citizens the opportunity to learn more about making healthy food choices. I thank the participants for your commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles.”

Take Action: NHES advocates adopting a vegetarian diet and we thank Mayor Fenty for promoting a better world for all living creatures by publically welcoming the D.C. VegFest. Thank him too by writing a brief note to:

    Mayor, District of Columbia

    Executive Office of the Mayor

1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 316

    No Bond to Foie Gras

    Paws Up!

To Roger Moore, former 007 super spy James Bond, for asking Selfridges department store to stop carrying foie gras.

According to news reports, Roger Moore wrote the owner of Selfridges department store, Galen Weston, “offering to buy the entire remaining stock of foie gras if Weston agreed never to restock it again.”   Weston has yet to respond to Moore’s offer.

Foie gras is produced by forcing long metal pipes down the throats of ducks and geese who are then force-fed massive amounts of grains so their livers swell to as much as 10 times their normal size. These force-feedings occur several times a day.

Take Action: Please write a polite letter to Galen Weston requesting he take James Bond up on his offer.
