    February 2010

    Special Announcement:

    Blizzard Strikes

The winter weather last week virtually shut down much of the East Coast, including the NHES offices located in Charles Town, WV, just about one hour west of Washington, DC. While many of us enjoyed some forced leisure time at home, it was certainly no "snow-cation" as we dug ourselves out of several feet of blizzard accumulation and navigated 12 foot drifts and icy roads on our way to work days later!

Of course, throughout the stormy weather, the nearly 200 dogs and cats of our affiliate, The Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC), were safe and cared for by our hardworking employees--both regular overnight staff and those who volunteered to hunker down at the center during the storm. We thank these dedicated individuals for cozying up with our animals and ensuring their well-being when many of us were unable to safely traverse to work.

As we get back to the important task of helping animals late this week, we appreciate your patience with our delayed updates to the NHES website. Please watch for the latest in our news and articles as the month of February continues--hopefully with a little less snow! In the mean time, check out a few more photos of our facility (home to NHES and BAAC) during the historic 2010 snow storm.

BAAC adoptables have fun playing in the snow-filled canine exercise yard.

Icicles hanging from the facility roof. They grew to be nearly twice in size after this photo was taken.

Just as with our nation's capitol, the snow removal costs of the 2010 blizzard have far exceeded our annual budget--please click here to make a donation toward offsetting this unforeseen deficit and help us continue to help the animals.

BAAC adoptable Jitterbug has fun in the snow!

    We thank you!
