To Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) for introducing H.R. 3526, also known as the CECIL Act, to prevent the importation of carcasses or body parts of species being considered for protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

If passed into law, a new bill known as the Ceasing the Importation of Large Animal Trophies (CECIL) Act would prohibit the importation of carcasses or body parts belonging to species under consideration for Endangered Species Act protections.lion (5)

The bill was introduced this session by Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) after an American dentist on a trophy-hunting excursion killed a male lion in July. The lion, known locally as Cecil was killed just outside the protected lands of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. African lions now occupy less than 22% of their historical range due to a combination of factors including habitat loss, loss of prey – and trophy hunting.

  1. Elizabeth Watson says:

I was outraged when I read about Cecil the lion’s brutal and senseless killing, just for the sake of some privileged millionaire’s ego. This kind of treatment of animals has got to stop. They are doing not on this earth to serve as trophies for heartless big game hunters.

    I support this!!!!!
