To the city council of San Angelo, Texas which passed a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance.

The city of San Angelo, TX, has approved a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance that hopefully will become the norm throughout the United States. A feasible solution for combating pet overpopulation is to enforce the spaying and neutering of companion animals. The city of San Angelo agrees and according to a recent news article, microchipping will also be included in the ordinance. The mayor was not in favor of the ordinance stating, “This is un-American.” The ordinance passed despite his disapproval.

      Hi Vicki,

Thank you for your comment. Spreading awareness is a great place to start! Begin by talking to your neighbors, coworkers, and friends about the importance of spaying and neutering and how the overpopulation of dogs and cats is affecting your city. Go to city council meetings and voice your opinion to your elected officials. And most importantly, don’t give up! Getting a law passed- even in small government- can take a lot of time and work, but it will be worth it by saving thousands of animals in your community. Thank you!
