The NHES Humane Education & Advocacy Program speaks on behalf of animals through a multitude of actions including its letter-writing campaigns, timely and revelvant website information, and education programs for both children and adults. In Fiscal Year 2009, the Humane Education & Advocacy Department contacted more than 400 federal, state, and county public officials throughout the US, as well as many international leaders and private corporations, and advocating for animals via encouraging them to support the humane treatment of animals when considering specific policies and legislations. The department's humane action letters during this time tallied at some 600 letters on over 100 animal welfare issues. Additionally, during FY 2009 NHES staff members attended several animal cruelty trials in the area local the its national office.
