To Walmart stores for choosing to sell cage-free eggs by 2025
In the United States, there are 3 million factory farmed egg-laying hens. The lives of these hens are far from humane. A person will not see hens from factory farms running free scouring grass for food enjoying the sun on their beaks. Rather, they will find up to seven egg-laying hens crammed together in a cage referred to as a “battery cage.” The hens are not able to move or even spread their wings. Often the hens are de-beaked to prevent them from pecking each other while in this cruel environment. Their inhumane treatment is a direct result of trying to meet the exorbitant needs of the consumer. Thankfully, this sad existence will change for a lot of hens in 2025. According to U.S. Today, Walmart has chosen to transition to only cage-free eggs by 2025. While cage-free chickens are not necessarily free-roaming, this is nonetheless a market improvement in quality of life for egg-laying hens. Take Action: Thank Walmart for choosing to go “cage-free” with the eggs they will be selling by 2025.
Good job!!!
Not good enough. Non-caged just means a lot of chickens crammed together in a bigger space. It is still not humane.
