Connecticut legislators have introduced and passed another bill that will help protect companion animals suffering at the hands of animal abusers. According to a recent news article, Desmond’s Law was introduced in February 2016 after the tragic death of an abused companion dog named Desmond. Desmond was beaten, starved, strangled, and then killed after multiple domestic violence disputes.  The abuser admitted to committing the many horrific acts against Desmond. Once convicted, the abuser participated in an accelerated rehabilitation program that erased any sign of his conviction. If passed, Desmond’s law would provide animal cruelty cases with court-appointed, volunteer animal advocates on a case-by-case basis and hopefully will prevent cases like this from occurring in the future in Connecticut.

Take Action: Connecticut residents, thank your legislator for choosing to advocate for abused animals, and contact Governor Dannel P. Malloy to show your support that H.B. 5344 be passed.
