Stressed Out? Animals Can Help! - National Humane Education Society

Dear Friend of Animals,

Do you know that our animals help us reduce stress and anxiety? According to a survey by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), 74% of people feel improvement in their mental health due to having companion animals. Studies have further proven that companion animals help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol in their owners while boosting their overall sense of well-being.

When you adopt an animal from a shelter, you’re not only improving your own health, but you are giving that animal a second chance at a happy, healthy life with a loving family. In a year like 2020 when Americans are feeling more stressed than ever, remember to take a moment at least once a day to cuddle with your cat in a quiet room or go for a peaceful walk with your dog. Not only can these daily routines help you feel better, but they can help strengthen the special bond you and your animals share. That’s what we call a win-win!

Are you considering adopting a companion animal and not sure where to start? Browse our Companion Animals page for helpful tips and suggestions to ensure a long and healthy life for both you and your furry companions.
