UPDATE:  Governor Mike Pence has signed H.B. 1201 and it will take effect in 2021.

Pet overpopulation is the direct result of human negligence. Due to that negligence, a horrific number of innocent companionMother_kittens animals in shelters are euthanized each year throughout the U.S. A humane solution for this ever-increasing problem is to have companion animals sterilized through spay or neuter surgeries. Lawmakers throughout the U.S. have realized the need for a mandatory spay and neuter law and many of these laws have been passed, especially on a city or county-wide basis.

Indiana State Representative Linda Lawson has been battling for seven years for the state to pass a mandatory spay and neuter law. Her determination has paid off and H.B. 1201 has passed the Indiana House of Representatives and is headed to the Senate. A recent news article addressed a study that was done by the University of Indiana examining how many animals were surrendered each year. Resulting data showed that 125,000 animals were surrendered and 40 percent of those were euthanized. That is 50,000 four-legged friends who needlessly lost their lives due to human irresponsibility.

Take Action: If you reside in Indiana, contact your state representative to share your approval of H.B. 1201. If you reside in a county or state that does not currently have a mandatory spay and neuter law, contact your local or state representative and ask that one be passed.
