Paws Up! Representative Nancy Mace reintroduced Violet’s Law to give animals a chance at adoption after being utilized in animal testing.

A lot of people do not agree with animal testing, but what happens to these animals after the testing is over? The sad reality is once animals are no longer needed for research experiments, they are euthanized most of the time, whether they are healthy or not. As quoted from Nancy Mace’s press release, “It’s cruel and unnecessary to euthanize dogs, cats, and other animals in federal research labs which are healthy enough to be adopted out and live happy lives. We are leading this commonsense, bipartisan effort to ensure that federal agencies can retire and re-home animals no longer needed in taxpayer-funded research whenever possible.”
Representative Nancy Mace reintroduced H.R. 1465: Violet’s Law on March 8, 2023. This bill was formerly referred to as the AFTER Act. Violet’s Law is named after a hound that was adopted from an animal testing laboratory. Violet’s Law aims to give certain animals a chance to be adopted or placed in sanctuaries when they are no longer needed in research laboratories and are suitable for release. Animals included under this bill are dogs, cats, primates, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits.
These helpless animals that have been experimented on deserve a chance at receiving love and peace. Tens of thousands of animals are used in experiments annually that taxpayers are funding. At the very least, these animals should be put up for adoption or into sanctuaries after they have suffered from experimentation.
