How to Adopt?
Adoption Process
The National Humane Education Society’s Adoption Program is a result of over 60 years’ experience of working with companion animals and the adopting public. Our primary goal is to place animals in loving homes while providing support to make the transition from shelter to home as easy and rewarding for both our pets and the adopters!
Our adoption staff is looking forward to helping you find a pet who will bring you years of unconditional love. All dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered and have received their necessary immunizations. As a part of our process, we select the “best fit” for our animals. Please note that we do not offer same-day adoptions.
Adoption Fees are displayed on each animal’s information page.
To begin our adoption process, please come by, fill out the online form, or call 304-724-6558 to speak to an adoption counselor at the Briggs Animal Adoption Center. Questions: email adopt@nhes.org
Part of our adoption process includes, but is not limited to:
- All applicants must be 21 years of age.
- All existing cats and dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered (if they aren’t for a health reason, verification from your veterinarian may be required.)
- All household members must visit with the animal (some exceptions apply), if all members can’t visit, please indicate why.
- Landlord Approval, if applicable.
- If you have other dogs, a dog-to-dog visit is required to see if they will be a good fit.
