Update: Big Cat Public Safety Act Passes the House! - National Humane Education Society

Paws Up! To the House of Representatives for Passing the Big Cat Public Safety Act.

December 5, 2020

Important legislation that would help big cats in America took a huge step forward on December 3, 2020, when the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1380 The Big Cat Public Safety Act 272-114.

The Big Cat Public Safety Act gained momentum in the spring of 2020 after the release of Netflix’s documentary series Tiger King, which highlighted the cruel and inhumane practices inherent in the exotic animal trade industry in the United States. If enacted, this bill will create tougher regulations for exotic animal facilities such as roadside zoos and animal parks which are notorious for illegally breeding tigers to use the cubs for roadside attractions such as photo ops for tourists. Once the cubs are grown, they are sold and trafficked throughout the United States.

Take Action: This bill is moving to the Senate for a vote next. Please contact your senators and tell them to vote in favor of The Big Cat Public Safety Act to improve animal welfare standards in our country!
