BAAC Emergency Operating Funds Needed

Will you help us continue fostering kindness and compassion for animals in both children and adults? We greatly appreciate any amount you can give today to help ensure BAAC’s program can continue its lifesaving work. 🐾❤️

Since 1948, The National Humane Education Society (NHES) has worked to create a more humane world for animals through the generosity of supporters who share our mission. This mission is carried out through three key programs:

  • Humane Education
  • Spay Today, a program that provides reduced-cost spay and neuter servies to individuals in VA, WV, PA, and MD

  • Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC), a program that rescues, rehabilitates, and finds loving homes for companion animals

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, NHES relies entirely on donations to support its work. Unfortunately, contributions began declining during the pandemic and have now reached a critically low level.

BAAC’s facility, completed in 2000, is capable of housing up to 200 cats and dogs. However, due to limited funding, we are currently operating at only a quarter of our capacity. We have the space, resources, and dedicated staff to save many more animals and help them find loving, forever homes—if only we had the funding to do so.

The facility also houses our Spay Today program, which provides low-cost spay and neuter assistance for dogs and cats in the region. Our funding shortfall has also begun to impact this vital service.

Today, BAAC is in urgent need of operating funds so we can continue caring for the animals currently in our shelter and provide rescue relief to local or out-of-state animal shelters and rescues when they call upon us.

We are deeply grateful to the countless individuals who have helped BAAC thrive throughout the years. Looking into the eyes of each precious animal—and being greeted with gentle purrs or joyful zoomie sessions—is incredibly rewarding. These moments are etched in the hearts of our dedicated volunteers and staff and bring joy to every day.

Our supporters and the animals we serve are the reason we are able to make such a meaningful impact, and we are forever grateful.
