Maneki-Neko Window Cling

A small figurine of a cat with his paw raised in the air sits on a shelf in our on-site veterinary clinic at The National Humane Education Society (NHES). It looks very much like the one in the transparency that I have included as a gift for you in this letter. This figurine and transparency are of a Maneki-Neko, which translates from Japanese
as “beckoning cat.”

According to one of the folktales that surrounds the Maneki-Neko, it brings prosperity and good luck to whomever takes in and feeds a starving stray cat. Hearing this, I thought about you because you share a critical value with NHES: You will not “turn a blind eye” to a starving or injured animal. But rather, you will do all that you can for a suffering animal —including cats like Gandalf who came to us in desperate need of help.

Within less than two weeks of being rescued, Gandalf’s wounds began to heal and he gained more than 30% of his body weight. Today, Gandalf is living in his new home, because people like you — who will never turn a blind eye to animal suffering — cared enough to help save him. Thank you for your gift.
