Representative Gregory Steube for Florida introduced H.R. 8699: Protecting Dogs Subjected to Experiments Act on August 9th, 2022. This bill would stop Federal funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for any biological, medical, or behavioral research involving a dog.  This is great news for taxpayers that have to pay out of pocket for this Federal funding.

Currently, taxpayers are paying for this cruel practice without a choice in the matter. According to a recent press release, the NIH uses over $40 billion in taxpayer dollars annually to fund its research projects. It is a use of the taxpayer’s money whether they agree with animal testing or not.

Some horrific examples of recent experiments on dogs include injecting them with cocaine, de-barking them and poisoning them, infesting beagles with flies and ticks, and forcing them to suffer septic shock. It is unimaginable the suffering these poor animals are going through. These experiments are so inhumane one does not even want to think about them, let alone fund them. Stopping dog testing is a stepping stone to putting an end to the testing on animals altogether.
