L’Oreal Bans Animal Hair in Makeup Brushes - National Humane Education Society

Paws Up! To L’Oreal for making positive changes toward a more humane world.

January 20, 2021

Worldwide beauty and cosmetics company, L’Oreal, has announced that they will ban the use of animal hair in their makeup brushes.

Many makeup and paint brushes are made with real badger hair, harvested from badgers raised in farms across the world. Last year, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released evidence of extreme animal abuse at badger farms in China–the world’s largest supplier of badger hair. Since then, other major companies such as NARS and Proctor & Gamble have made the switch to synthetic hair in their makeup and beauty products.

Now, L’Oreal is added to the ranks of nearly 100 companies that have vowed to change the industry standard from animal hair to synthetic hair. This change is not only more sustainable in the long run, but it is easier on customers’ wallets, too. Now, that sounds like a win-win!
