The Protecting Dogs Subjected to Experiments Act has been reintroduced! H.R. 8699 did not pass during the 117th session of Congress, so Representative Gregory Steube introduced it as H.R. 574 for the 118th session of Congress. H.R. 574: Protecting Dogs Subjected to Experiments Act was reintroduced on January 26, 2023.

The new bill was reintroduced with the same name and bill text. The difference is H.R. 8699 had one co-sponsor, and the most recent bill H.R. 574, has nine co-sponsors. Protecting Dogs Subjected to Experiments Act is well deserving of the added support.

The objective of this bill is to prohibit the use of funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for testing on dogs. Types of testing that would be outlawed would include the conduction of biological, medical, or behavioral research. In short, taxpayers would no longer pay for experimentation on dogs.

This bill is worth not giving up on, and we applaud Representative Steube’s diligent efforts. Persistence is crucial in protecting puppies and dogs from these heinous experiments. Hopes are high that this bill gets passed the second time around.
